Engineering of Advanced Materials (Cluster of Excellence)
The Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials – Hierarchical Structure Formation for Functional Devices (EAM) is the only interdisciplinary research collaboration of its type in Germany to focus on materials science and process technology. Its research centers on the fundamental and applied aspects of designing and creating novel high-performance materials. Situated at the Friedrich-Alexander-University it is part of the Excellence Initiative of the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft), Germany's largest research funding organization. -
Erlangen graduate school in advanced optical technologies
The Erlangen Graduate School in Advanced Optical Technologies (SAOT) was established at the FAU in November 2006 within the framework of the Excellence Initiative. The scientific focus is laid on optics and optical technologies which are considered to form key technologies of the 21st century. Optical technologies are widely applied in science and industry, for example, in information and communication technology, in process engineering, in production engineering, in energy and environmental technology and in medicine. -
University Library
Since its foundation in 1743, the University Library has operated as the service centre for the research and teaching community of our university. It now provides access to 5.5 million media items at more than 130 locations. Holdings include 12,000 current print journals. The Library offers access to about 25,000 electronic journals and 1,200 databases. -
Erlangen Regional Computer Centre
The Erlangen Regional Computing Center (RRZE) is the university's IT service provider. The university's students, employees and facilities all turn to the RRZE for any queries regarding communications networks and web hosting. Furthermore, the RRZE offers courses to sharpen various skills including word processing, spreadsheets, image processing and web development.

Language Centre
The university's Language Centre (SZ) offers German as a foreign language courses to foreign students and employees. The SZ also offers a wide range of courses for learning or improving foreign language skills. In addition to romance language, including French, Spanish and Rumanian, it covers north and east European languages, such as Finnish, and world languages such as Arabic and Chinese.
