Volunteer tutors who work for the Central Office for International Affairs are German and non-German students who enjoy interacting with people from other countries.
Tutors are responsible for assisting international exchange students in making their stay as pleasant as possible. Tutors not only help international students to learn more about German culture and student life, they also support the integration of international students into the student community. At parties, excursions and seminars, for example, both students and tutors learn about and come to appreciate the customs, culture and traditions of others.

Many jobs for many helpers!

A variety of jobs

There are many ways in which to become active as a student tutor:

Support BEFORE the semester: Orientation Courses (OK)

If you want to help newcomers or “freshers” find their feet, then you should sign up to become a tutor on an Orientation Course. These tutors provide support for new students in dealing with bureaucratic formalities and in finding their way around the University and the city. Tutors also introduce new students to German and Franconian culture during different social events, such as excursions, regular social evenings (“Stammtische”) and a selection of guided tours.

Support DURING the semester: Tutors for the Culture and Social Programmes

In order to allow international students to become better acquainted with German culture, student helpers and tutors coordinate a broad programme of social and cultural activities. A variety of events is organised ranging from excursions to places throughout Germany lasting several days to film and social evenings in local pubs and bars. The cultural aspect is, however, never forgotten. As the fun part of this programme is organized by student tutors themselves, close contact can be established with people from other cultures.

How do I become a tutor?

The basic prerequisite for becoming a tutor is a desire to help and interact with people from other countries. If you would like to get to know many people from different countries across the globe, if you are a good listener, if you can bring motivation and a strong will to the job of organizing events, then you are very welcome to join to the team of tutors at Central Office for International Affairs.

Application

If you would like to apply to become a tutor, please send a copy of your CV to the Head of the Central Office for International Affairs, Dr. Brigitte Perlick (HIER VERLINKUNG AUF ADRESSE). Someone from our team of tutors will then contact you and send you an invitation to the next meeting.

Payment

Unfortunately, we are not in a position to provide payment to tutors and so rely on a voluntary commitment. Although small payments are made for organizing events, the amount is minimal. However, the work as a tutor for the Central Office for International Affairs can give you unique experience in international work. We will be happy to provide you with a reference and record of your duties at the end of your period of work.
