The majority of international students come to Germany without grants and scholarships and are required to demonstrate to the German authorities that they are able to finace their stay. This means that they must provide a so-called “Finanzierungsnachweis” (proof of financial resources) for one year.

The universities themselves do not provide grants, so submitting an application for financial assistance would be futile. There are, however, other institutions which do provide grants:
