You are in the section working whilst in germany

In Germany many students take on part-time jobs during their time at university both during the semester and in the holidays. Some students find employment with companies which simply enables them to make a living, while some find work, as official interns, which is directly related to their studies. Other students take on hourly-paid work in bars or restaurants, or the like, just to make a little extra money. The following official bodies offer help to students looking for employment:

For students from countries outside the EU, Switzerland or the countries of the European Economic Area, there are limits to the number of hours which they may work without a work permit (90 days per annum, or 180 half days). These limitations make it very important that you consider your financial situation realistically before beginning a course of studies, and that you take the proof of financial means seriously (c.f. the sub-section “Financial Requirements” in the section “Germany” on this website). With regard to international students, the laws and regulations concerning work are very strict. If you break the law or violate the regulations you may be deported from Germany!

The relevant pages of the DAAD website offer comprehensive information on this subject, and an information sheet which can be downloaded. It is often possible to find work as a student assistant within the university departments themselves (for example in the libraries, in the secretaries’ offices or as a tutor, etc.) The rate paid for these jobs, as they are known, is usually around Euros 6.00 per hour. Keep your eye on the departmental notice boards since this is where most student assistant jobs are first advertised.
