Services

The FAU Graduate School is currently planning to offer a range of specific offers to be implemented step by step over the year. Furthermore, the university offers a number of services and counselling opportunities (mostly in German) which could be of interest for doctoral candidates. Another source of information and possibility to get in touch with colleagues is offered by the interdisciplinary network THESIS e.V.

General services for international students and guests are also offered by the Central Office of International Affairs.

Transferable Skills and Academic Dialogue
In cooperation with schools, departments and administrative units, the FAU Graduate School will offer a range of courses on transferable skills such as rhetoric, project management, time planning and presentation techniques to promote career opportunities within and outside academia.

Secondly, it will encourage candidates to look beyond their own work and reflect on aspects of academic research, thus promoting a dialogue between disciplines. In cooperation with the Zentralinstitut für Angewandte Ethik und Wissenschaftskommunikation (ZIEW) the FAU Graduate School plans to offer opportunities for an exchange of ideas involving all doctoral candidates who are interested.

Language and Intercultural Awareness
International experience is an invaluable asset for a career in academia and research and language skills as well as intercultural awareness and training are therefore crucial. Consequently, the FAU Graduate School will offer specific language courses and seminars on intercultural communication with a focus on international projects.

Social Aspects
Apart from providing supervision and academic courses, the Graduate School should also be the first contact for doctoral students with regard to social issues. It will advise on topics such as housing, finances, mental health issues and promote activities leading to the development of an active graduate culture at the university.
