A great deal of support is available to FAU students if they have problems or questions about their studies.
Student Advisory Centre
For any questions on study options, subject combinations, entry regulations and application procedures, as well as programmes of study and examination requirements, the Information and Advice Centre is the first point of contact.
Central Office of International Affairs
The Central Office for International Affairs is responsible for:
- developing, promoting and implementing the internationalisation strategy of FAU
- providing prospective international exchange students, lecturers, professors, with information about FAU study programmes and admission procedures
- promoting interaction among international students, associate lecturers and professors and the local community
- offering comprehensive advice to internation students and staff before leaving home, upon arrival in Erlangen-Nürnberg and during their stay here
- offering cultural adjustment counselling to the newcomers
- organising orientation seminars and a cultural programme for international students
- informing the general public on the opportunities of international co-operation, providing the possibility of studying and experiencing a different educational culture and university environment
- coordinating, managing and evaluating the European programmes, promoting international participation of the University in programmes such as ERASMUS
- promoting the University’s offer of educational programmes abroad
- editing and publishing materials for international students and teaching staff
Studentenwerk
The Studentenwerk provides places in and administers the halls of residence (Wohnheime) in Erlangen and Nuremberg and can also assist students in finding private accommodation. The Studentenwerk is also responsible for the various refectories and cafeterias (Mensen), and provides a number of advisory and counselling services for students. Free legal advice is available to registered students with legal problems related to their studies at university; the counselling service provides confidential help for students experiencing difficulties with their studies and exams, as well as those with social and psychological problems.
At the travel office students can book flights and make other travel arrangements for both study and recreational purposes, taking advantage of special student offers. The International Student identity card (ISIC) can also be purchased here.
